Welcome to the annual Cabrillo Beach Youth Waterfront Sports Center Boy Scout Day Camp! 

We will have two one-week summer sessions to choose from, running from August 10-13, 2009, and August 17-20, 2009.  Each week is a separate session and Scouts can choose different activities weekly to keep them busy.  Some Merit Badges require an additional material/fuel cost.  Lunch is from 12-12:50 p.m. with some cool activities and a little friendly Monday, July 6, 2009 10:22 AMor one week-long half-day session.  Campers attending a full day may take a $20 discount; half-day session campers may take a $10 discount when pre-registering by August 1, 2009.  Registration is now being taken at Cabrillo; however, the sooner a Scout signs up, the better chance he will have to receive the desired Merit Badge activity.  For more information, contact Cabrillo Youth Center at (310)831-1984 or email at admin@cabrilloyouthcamp.org. 

 WHAT’S INCLUDED

Our full day session begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday.   Friday will be for merit badge completion only and optional hikes.  It is not necessary to attend on Friday unless you wish to attend one of the hikes or if you need to complete a merit badge. Extended hours (7:30 to 8:30 am and 4:15 to 5:00 pm) for drop off and pickup are also available for an additional fee.  The daily schedule is:

Merit Badge Class Session #1 9:00 to 10:20
Merit Badge Class Session #2 10:30 to 11:50
     Lunch 12:00 to 12:50

Merit Badge Class Session #4 2:30 to 3:50
Closing/Cleanup 3:50 to 4:00
Check out 4:00 to 4:15
Late Pick up (additional fee) 4:15 to 5:00

Field trips are scheduled on Friday to the Cabrillo Aquarium, the tide pools, the Korean Bell of Friendship (Trail to First Class), the Los Angeles Maritime Museum and the Los Angeles Harbor Fire Museum.  At this time, the schedule is not set for all field trips.  Any registered Scout for this day camp may participate in any field trip with proper parent permission and signature on field trip permission slips.    

Some classes have an additional materials fee to cover additional materials.

Introduction to Water Skills. Helps students feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely.
Fundamental Aquatic Skills. Gives students success with fundamental skills.
Stroke Development. Builds on the skills in Level 2 by providing additional guided practice.
Stroke Improvement. Develops confidence in the strokes learned thus far and to improve other aquatic skills.
Stroke Refinement. Provides further coordination and refinement of all the strokes. Flip turns on the front and back are also introduced.
Swimming and Skill Proficiency. Refines the strokes so students swim them with ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. Level 6 is designed with "menu" options. Each of these options focus on preparing students to participate in more advance courses, such as Water Safety Instructor and Lifeguard Training. These options include:

 
•  Fundamentals of Diving - 6A (Not available at CBYWSC)
 
•  Fitness Swimmer - 6B
 
•  Lifeguard Readiness - 6C
 
•  Personal Water Safety - 6D

Free swim will be allowed provided those who have elected free swim do not interrupt/disrupt classes utilizing the pool.  Scouts not electing to have a free swim period will be allowed to swim once all merit badge work has been completed for that period.
